Two Spirit Services

I’d like to take this opportunity to formally introduce myself to the community and to elaborate on some of the programming and progress that has been happening within our Two-Spirit Group at Minwaashin Lodge.

The term “Two-Spirit” is used by Aboriginal people to describe gay, lesbian, transgender, bi-sexual and questioning people. We welcome all Two-Spirit People regardless of sex, race or religion. Along with the groups that are run twice a week, I am available for community referral. I am also creating a resource library that I hope will accommodate your needs.

Our Circle is kept safe by using the 7 Sacred Teachings as guidelines:

• Honesty
• Humility
• Truth
• Respect
• Wisdom
• Love
• Bravery

The idea behind these gatherings is self exploration. By embracing our individual gifts and becoming aware of our values, we walk what is true to our hearts. In order to support this awareness a variety of Elders and community members share the teachings of interest to the group.

Our circle is growing strong within the Lodge and expanding to reach our community in a variety of ways. I have been invited to a variety of agencies to share the research and teachings that I have accumulated since the program started. The group has also formed Two Spirit Drum Group, which allows for us to share our songs within the community.
